Nvidia and Google have come together to build and establish the first-ever AI-on-5G Innovation Lab. This partnership will enable developers to accelerate the development of new applications for both these platforms.
The newly formed alliance with Google Cloud will allow Nvidia to penetrate deeper into the 5G and AI sectors.

Nvidia’s entry into the 5G and AI space
The lab provides third-party applications and corporate developers full access to Google Cloud’s Anthos platform and Nvidia’s server hardware and software. This means that developers will now be able to boost reliability, operational efficiency, and performance.
Nvidia has also extended support for Arm processors in its advanced and sophisticated Aerial A100 AI-on-5G platform. This will allow users to provide more AI services to the edge via affordable industry-standard servers that primarily combine Nvidia’s AI software and Arm processors.
The newly inked deal with Google’s Cloud platform will provide Nvidia a competitive edge.
Hyperscalers vs Telecommunications Services Providers
According to Nvidia, such servers pave the way for the seamless creation and deployment of self-hosted virtual radio access networks (vRAN). This is primarily possible by delivering 5G and AI across a range of network equipment firms, software developers, private enterprises, and telecommunications services providers.
The new deal is one of the many examples of how hyperscalers such as Microsoft, AWS, and Google are trying to compete with telecommunications providers.
For instance, in 2020 Microsoft acquired Metaswitch Networks, a company that provides software to telecommunications firms to deliver data and voice services. Similarly, in 2019, Amazon partnered with Verizon to boost 5G speeds.
Unlike its competitors, until now, Google has remained pretty inactive within the telco industry. However, the recent Google labs announcement suggests that the tech giant is finally stepping into the telecom space.
More about Google Cloud’s Anthos Platform
Google Clouds Anthos provides a very reliable and secured platform for application deployment. The platform will allow users to develop and deliver enterprise-grade applications much faster than before.
Another advantage of Anthos is that it protects software and applications supply chains while providing a result-oriented approach to managing policies for applications across different environments.
