Google Cloud and Nvidia Join Hands to Build First-ever AI-on-5G Innovation Lab

Nvidia and Google have come together to build and establish the first-ever AI-on-5G Innovation Lab. This partnership will enable developers to accelerate the development of new applications for both these platforms.

The newly formed alliance with Google Cloud will allow Nvidia to penetrate deeper into the 5G and AI sectors.

Nvidia’s entry into the 5G and AI space

The lab provides third-party applications and corporate developers full access to Google Cloud’s Anthos platform and Nvidia’s server hardware and software. This means that developers will now be able to boost reliability, operational efficiency, and performance.

Nvidia has also extended support for Arm processors in its advanced and sophisticated Aerial A100 AI-on-5G platform. This will allow users to provide more AI services to the edge via affordable industry-standard servers that primarily combine Nvidia’s AI software and Arm processors.

The newly inked deal with Google’s Cloud platform will provide Nvidia a competitive edge.

Hyperscalers vs Telecommunications Services Providers

According to Nvidia, such servers pave the way for the seamless creation and deployment of self-hosted virtual radio access networks (vRAN). This is primarily possible by delivering 5G and AI across a range of network equipment firms, software developers, private enterprises, and telecommunications services providers.

The new deal is one of the many examples of how hyperscalers such as Microsoft, AWS, and Google are trying to compete with telecommunications providers.

For instance, in 2020 Microsoft acquired Metaswitch Networks, a company that provides software to telecommunications firms to deliver data and voice services. Similarly, in 2019, Amazon partnered with Verizon to boost 5G speeds.

Unlike its competitors, until now, Google has remained pretty inactive within the telco industry. However, the recent Google labs announcement suggests that the tech giant is finally stepping into the telecom space.

More about Google Cloud’s Anthos Platform

Google Clouds Anthos provides a very reliable and secured platform for application deployment. The platform will allow users to develop and deliver enterprise-grade applications much faster than before.

Another advantage of Anthos is that it protects software and applications supply chains while providing a result-oriented approach to managing policies for applications across different environments.

Karandeep was born in Pune, Maharashtra, an upcoming metropolitan city in the Western region of India. While most members of his family are engineers, he had different ideas. He was more inclined toward exploring the non-technical aspects of a business, which is why he studied Bachelors of Business Administration at Symbiosis International University, Pune.  Having said that, his love for new and upcoming technologies remained intact, which is why he has written extensively about technology throughout his career. After a brief stint with a gaming company at the beginning of his career, he discovered that his love for writing was not temporary.  Being a tech geek, he always liked installing and playing around with new applications on his mobile devices and the home desktop. He was fascinated by how technology can simplify even the most mundane and complex tasks with just a few commands. He keeps a close eye on how businesses use different tools to streamline their operations to boost productivity and efficiency. At ToolsMetric, he writes product reviews that cover the main features and specifications of different enterprise applications. The sheer amount of innovation and hard work that goes into building these tech solutions is one of the reasons why Karandeep loves reviewing these tools. Besides product reviews, he also writes interesting news articles and blogs that track the latest developments in the tech industry.  When he is not writing, you can find him rooted to his seat playing video games, watching movies, or supporting his favorite football team. Since his childhood, he has always loved to travel and explore new places. Traveling is a major part of his life due to a myriad of reasons such as experiencing new cultures, food, and traditions.
