WhatsApp New Terms and Latest Beta to Focus on End-to-End Encrypted Backups

According to various sources, WhatsApp is currently working on the release of ‘End-to-end Encrypted Backups’. As per the screenshots shared by WaBetaInfo, the new version will prevent even WhatsApp from accessing private chats if users enable the encrypted backup option. Although WhatsApp has not announced the date of the official release, WhatsApps new terms and safety protection features could soon go live.

What is WhatsApp’s End-to-End Encrypted Backup?

Over the past, WhatsApp’s chat backup has received its fair share of the negative limelight. Many tech experts believe that the chat backup has been the Achilles heel in WhatsApp’s data security. Besides, even the backups were not password protected since the launch of WhatsApp itself.

WhatsApp is set to roll out ‘End-to-End Encrypted Backups as an optional feature for users. Users will be able to enable or disable encryption from the chat backups tab in the application.

The application’s user interface (UI) will be updated to indicate that backups are encrypted on Google Drive. Besides, an end-to-end encrypted message will be displayed below the chat backup options.

The main talking about WhatsApps’ latest beta is the password protection feature to restore chat backups to any device. The application will ask users to confirm their contact numbers for additional security.

There’s more! WhatsApp is likely to restrict some features for users who will not accept its new terms of use and privacy policy.

WhatsApp Tests Disappearing Messages

Apart from working on its safety and protection features, the instant messaging service has also been testing 24-hour disappearing messages for iOS and Android devices.

With this feature, messages will disappear 24-hours after being sent, similar to the current disappearing feature which makes messages vanish after seven days.

Tech companies such as Google and Facebook have come under the public eye due to their questionable data protection and sharing policies. As a result, over the past few months, these tech giants have been trying to gain back confidence by rolling out new security features and policies.
