Fake news around Stadia’s exit?

Interest levels around Stadia’s exit started to peak after a tweet was posted from a Twitter handle called “Killed by Google”. The tweet said that one of Google’s regional managers had given them a tip that Google is “beginning their exit plan”. The tweet also stated that Google is likely to warn users at least a month before they discontinue Stadia this year.

After initial concerns regarding Stadia’s future, there is nothing to worry about as of now. It appears that the rumor was started by an untrusted source and that the news is fake after all. Besides, all rumors were put to rest when Google responded to a user’s tweet and said that “Stadia is not shutting down”

The tweet has ensured that the floating rumor around Stadia’s demise was short-lived. Besides, the dodgy source of the rumor coupled with the lack of any concrete proof meant that the claim that Stadia was closing was likely to be untrue. Having said that, the tweet from “Killed by Google” did manage to ruffle some feathers, as a few Stadia users had their fair share of doubts regarding the platform’s future.

Although the claim was fake, there are strong reasons why the possibility of Stadia shutting down is not unthinkable. Since its launch in 2019, the platform has been no stranger to challenges. Right from a bunch of missing features to different technical issues, Stadia has suffered setbacks consistently. Besides, the biggest blow came when Google decided to shut down its own dedicated studio. Although Stadia has managed to build a decent user base in its short life, it lacks the oomph and appeal that other major platforms have. In a nutshell, it would be fair to say that Stadia has not been a successful venture for Google yet.

Stadia is not shutting down but challenges still exist

Although Stadia is not shutting down, it does not mean that the platform is free from problems. One of the biggest challenges for Stadia at the moment is addressing the problems with cloud gaming; inadequate infrastructure. Besides, to stream Stadia games in 4K, 35 Mbps or faster download speed is recommended. In many parts of the world, especially the developing regions, it is very difficult to find an internet service that provides such high speeds. In addition, users also have to pay for a monthly subscription and games. All these factors make Stadia a bit hostile compared to a few other platforms.
