As a part of the deal, Oracle will also use advanced algorithms to predict game results on the basis of live data feeds. Next season onwards, “Match Insights – Powered by Oracle Cloud” will provide detailed player performances along with insightful statistics and data across Premier League’s social channels.

Oracle will deploy its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to redefine live on-pitch action. Oracle’s solution will track player positions, provide a live win probability scale, and also include a momentum tracker. The momentum tracker will evaluate the probability of a team in possession of the ball to score a goal in the next ten seconds.

Currently, Oracle is also working on the development of machine learning models to provide results based on the following:

  • Real-time tracking data
  • Live data streams
  • Data collected on every player from past matches

Richard Masters, Premier League’s Chief Executive said that the management is relentlessly seeking different ways to improve match-day analysis. He said that Oracle has always been ahead of the game in terms of innovation and this deal will significantly enhance fan engagement worldwide.

According to Ariel Kelman, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Oracle, this deal is a monumental merger of sport and technology.

Growing influence of technology in sport

Over the past few years, multiple football leagues have joined hands with tech companies to provide seamless statistics and performance evaluations.

Oracle’s deal with the Premier League is very similar to that inked by Amazon Web Services (AWS) with Bundesliga in 2020. Bundesliga, which is Germany’s top-flight football league landed a deal with AWS for a spectrum of analytical, storage, and machine learning services.
